Anand received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 2014. At Penn, he worked for Prof. E James Petersson, beginning his interest in science. There he worked on unnatural amino acid mutagenesis to control enzyme function and organic synthesis for the development of fluorescent unnatural amino acids as biophysical probes. He then worked for Dr. Luke Lavis at Janelia Research Campus of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute for two years. At Janelia, he used synthetic organic chemistry to make molecular probes often having application for imaging in neuroscience. Anand is currently a first-year graduate student in the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Caltech. He recently joined the Lester group to continue his interests in chemistry and neuroscience.
